Some Corporate History
Since 1981, Track Data Corporation has been providing mission-critical financial market data.
Track Data started by supplying options data to Wall Street firms. Back in the pre-Internet days of
dedicated terminals, "Track" terminals became fixtures on the desks of brokerage houses that traded
options.
Throughout the 1980's, Track Data expanded the financial data it supplied to include equities quotes and
charts, real-time news, etc. The firm established direct links with financial exchanges around the world
and direct links with many of its customers. Track Data became a full service financial data vendor.
In the 1990's, Track Data looked to leverage its infrastructure and market data by entering the consumer
market. While the firm was already offering end-of-day data for consumers who used charting software,
it looked to offer a fuller software package with real-time quotes to allow consumers at home to use a
system modeled after professional trading screens. Track Data launched its market data software for
consumers in 1998.
In 1999, the firm introduced its integrated online trading and market data software. Track Data thus
entered the trading business, opening its own broker/dealer. The direct access software the firm
developed in-house offered consumers control over the routing of their equities and options orders.
